Getting started with Nextdoor for Local News in SND
Social News Desk supports two methods for onboarding your newsroom’s Nextdoor presence:
- Option A: Let SND create your News Page for you
- Option B: Bring an existing Nextdoor for News Page into SND
Option A: SND Creates Your Nextdoor for News Page
This is the default onboarding flow for newsrooms without an active Nextdoor News page. SND handles page creation and setup.
Designate a person in your newsroom to claim your page. Create a Nextdoor neighbor account (user account) with your work email address to manage your page. NOTE: You do not need to create your Local News Page in Nextdoor. SND will handle that during the onboarding process.
- In SND, navigate to Account Settings → Social Accounts (Team Admin access required)
- Click Add Social Account, choose Nextdoor, and select “News” as the Account Type
- Fill in your main website URL, publication or station name, a descriptive text, and upload your logo
- Authenticate Social News Desk to enable publishing to Nextdoor
- On the Nextdoor News onboarding screen, click Add
- Set up RSS feeds for automated publishing using Autopilot
Option B: Onboard an Existing Nextdoor for News Page
If your newsroom already has a Nextdoor News page that was created previously (e.g., during a pilot or directly via Nextdoor), follow this workflow to link it to SND.
- Go to Account Settings → Social Accounts in SND
- Click Add Social Account, select Nextdoor, and choose “News” as your account type
- Important: Enter the Publication URL from your existing Nextdoor page's native listing—not the page’s Nextdoor URL. This ensures SND links to your pre-existing News Page correctly.
- Complete the form with your station or publication name, description, and logo upload
- Authenticate Social News Desk to grant publishing permissions
- On the onboarding screen, click Add
- Configure RSS feeds for automatic publishing via Autopilot
